Benjamin Britten – A Ceremony of Carols
With Christmas Carols for choir and audience
Join CNCS for our 2024 Christmas concert, featuring an exciting programme comprising a wide variety of music. In the first half we’ll be performing Benjamin Britten’s amazing A Ceremony of Carols (version for SATB Choir and Harp) – a piece written in 1942 while on sea voyage from the United States to England, this work was originally written for three-part upper voices, and sets a mixture of Middle English, Latin and Early Modern English texts in multiple musical styles, emphasising the wintery Christmas season.
The second half features a selection of favourite Christmas carols; a mixture of well-known and less well-known works from a wide range of composers. These are complimented by three short carols composed by contemporary German composer Jan Wilke, which beautifully set harp and voice to work together so effortlessly.
CNCS are delighted to be performing alongside father and son duo Bernard and Reuben West, who will also perform solo harp and organ works. We encourage you all to join us for mulled wine and mince pies in this delightful Christmas concert.
