Chipping Norton and District
Choral Society (Chippy Choir to its friends) exists to provide amateur
singers the chance to sing varied choral
works together in a friendly environment. Members of the Society will testify
that striving to improve musical ability does not have to temper
the enjoyment of the music being sung. Many will additionally testify that
a post-rehearsal pint at the local hostelry nicely soothes
the vocal chords, especially after one of those fiendish pieces with high notes
in.
A more formal declaration of purpose and related matters can
be found in the Society's Constitution, the current version of which can be
seen here (you'll need Adobe Reader to be
able to open 'pdf' files - you can download this, free, from here).
The Society's Committee exists
to allow the Society to undertake its purpose effectively, by ensuring
the smooth running of the Society's rehearsals, concerts,
finances and administration. Currently (February 2007), the Committee consists of:
- Chair - Sarah Cobb
- Deputy Chair - Toby Blundell (also Concert
Manager)
- Treasurer - Denis Wynn
- Secretary - Beth Sinclair
- Librarian - Vicki Pike
- Subscriptions and
Membership Secretary - Brian Jones
- Hélène
Barratt (Publicity); Caroline Johnston (Assistant Librarian); Graham Pike
(Friends' Secretary and Concert Manager); Jo Rigg (Assistant Librarian);
Andrew Vaile (Tickets Secretary)
There is also a Music Committee which considers and selects
our musical programme. This consists of:
- Musical Director - Peter Hunt
- Assistant Musical Director - Bernard West
- Librarian - Vicki Pike
- Assistant
Librarians - Caroline Johnston, Jo Rigg
- Voice Reps: Wendy
Guest (Sopranos); Jill Greer (Altos); Roger Stein (Tenors);
Dennis Mowbray (Basses)
-
Committee Rep: Sarah Cobb
Volunteers to assist with this work are always welcome - if
you would like to help, please speak to any Committee member.
Officers and members
of the Committee can be approached at any time with questions, comments or
suggestions regarding the Society: in addition, the Committee reports formally
to the Society members once a year at the Annual General Meeting. The AGM
is usually held in the latter half of a rehearsal towards the end of
September. The minutes of the last AGM (2006) can be viewed here
; the minutes of the 2005 AGM can
