Concert
Matters:
Our next concert - Puccini’s Messa di Gloria -
will be on Saturday 17th May 2008 at 7:30pm in St. Mary’s
Church, Chipping Norton. There will be a rehearsal during the afternoon on the
day of the concert (details will be advised nearer the day).
Volunteers will be needed to set up the church, act as stewards, sell programmes,
provide refreshments and in particular to tidy up afterwards etc. etc. We
will
ask for volunteers later in the term!
Dress Code for
concerts (including the Music Festival) is as follows:
For ladies: black blouse (long-sleeved if worn on its own) plus
optional black jacket; long black skirt (and
black tights) or long black trousers; black shoes.
For gentlemen:
dinner jacket or dark suit; white shirt and black bow tie; black
shoes.
Other Important
Dates:
Half term: there will be no rehearsal
on Wednesday 20th february for half term.
Easter holiday:
there will be no
rehearsals on Wednesday 9th and 16th April for the Easter holidays.
Note this is the schools'
Easter holiday - so we will rehearse either side of the Easter weekend in
March.
Apart from that we will
rehearse every week from 9th January until 14th May inclusive.
Chipping Norton Music
Festival:
The Choirs Class of the Chipping Norton Music
Festival will take place this year on Saturday 1st
March (not a Wednesday as in previous years) in the Main Hall at
Chipping Norton School. More details soon, but please keep the date free
so you can participate. Last year we received a distinction - we need to
keep up our standards!
If you have never particiapted in the Festival before
then do ask a committee member about what it involves - or speak to Tish or
Rosemary in the sopranos, who are respectively Chairman and Secretary of the
Festival Committee. It is a great opportunity to hear other local
choirs, as well as to sing.

The Music Committee members are voice representatives
Wendy Guest (soprano), Beth Sinclair (alto), Roger Stein (tenor) and Denis
Mowbray (bass) plus Peter, Bernard, Vicki, Toby and Sarah. We meet about
once a year to plan future concerts. All ideas for pieces to sing are
very welcome; please talk to your voice rep or any other member of the
committee.

Rehearsals and Scores:
Rehearsals are from
7.30 - 9.30 p.m. each Wednesday, with a break including notices and the
raffle. Please do arrive punctually. There are Attendance
Sheets (one for each voice) for you to tick your name. Can you please also
indicate if you intend to sing in the concert.
Music scores
are available
for sale (if you've ordered beforehand) or on hire from Vicki, Jo and
Caroline. Please make cheques payable to
Chipping Norton Choral Society.
Hire copies should be returned immediately after the concert; if you find you are unable to sing in the concert, please
return them to one of the Librarians straightaway. Any marks on hire copies must be in
pencil so they can be rubbed
out.
Money:
Subscriptions - Please see Brian, who will
let you know when your subscription is due. The annual rate is £60
(50 concessions). If you are a tax payer, please also ask for a Gift Aid
form so that the society can reclaim tax at no cost to you.
